A half-track tank from the Second World War overturned. Two men were killed and eight others were injured. In addition to Czech firefighters, paramedics and police officers, emergency services from Upper Austria were also on site.
The accident occurred while crossing a bridge. “Apparently the vehicle skidded on the icy surface,” police spokesman Milan Bajcura was quoted as saying by the Czech portal “blesk.cz”. As a result, the tank overturned and fell into the stream below.
Nine people were trapped under the vehicle. Witnesses to the incident also tried to revive a man outside the tank. “Despite all the efforts of those involved, two men could not be saved and died at the scene of the accident,” says Petra Kafkova, spokeswoman for the South Bohemian rescue services. Eight other men, however, got off relatively lightly. According to Kafkova, they were taken to the Cesky Krumlov hospital with hypothermia and minor bruises.
