This emerges from an evaluation by the employer rating platform kununu, which analyzed 181,000 salary data from 2023 and 2024. Accordingly, Viennese people have the highest average salaries at 51,127 euros and Vorarlberg residents at 51,094 euros, while people from Burgenland only receive 45,019 euros.

Linz leads the city ranking
As far as the 10 largest cities in Austria are concerned, Linz is ahead of Vienna, Dornbirn, Graz and Wels with 51,278. St. Pölten, Salzburg and Villach are in the midfield, while salaries in Innsbruck and Klagenfurt are the lowest in this comparison.
The gap between the incomes of men and women also becomes clear in the evaluation. Accordingly, women earn an average of 43,599 euros annually, which is 8,839 euros less than their male colleagues, who earn 52,438 euros. The gap is also confirmed when looking at the pay slips of employees with personnel responsibility: here the difference between the genders is an even higher 24 percent. Overall, managers earn an average of 58,818 euros per year.

Kununu boss: No pay equity in the labor market
“Our figures show that there is still no salary equality in the Austrian labor market. This applies to the comparison between the genders, but also to the regional comparison. A key reason for this is the continued lack of salary transparency, which is significantly higher for employees would offer orientation,” kununu boss Nina Zimmermann was quoted as saying in a broadcast on Monday.

There are also clear differences across professions and industries. The leaders are people with the title “Professor” with 90,027 euros gross per year, followed by business unit managers (84,439 euros) and doctors (84,352 euros). Other top earners include software architects, private bankers and tax consultants. In terms of sectors, the IT sector and the banking sector are at the forefront.
The salary information of full-time employees was taken into account for the study. Part-time employees or interns were not included in the analysis.
