As the Elysee Palace announced on Monday, Macron again held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The possibility of a direct meeting was also discussed, it said. The US and Russia had previously exchanged blows in the UN Security Council, while Great Britain threatened new sanctions against Russia.
Macron said that he agreed with Putin to continue the dialogue on the implementation of the Minsk Ukraine agreement. The two presidents also welcomed the “progress” in the Normandy format talks (Ukraine, Russia, Germany, France). According to the Kremlin, the security guarantees requested by Russia were also discussed. It was the second phone call between the two presidents in three days.
