“I introduce myself brother, my name is Naza, I am from Argentina and I want to be a martyr in Argentina”said one of his messages directed at radicalized groups linked to the Islamic State. In another conversation, he asked for instructions on making bobas: “Will they teach me how to make explosives to attack?”

In his resolution, the magistrate stated: “I consider it proven, with the limitations inherent to this procedural stage, that Ávila was part of permanent or temporary groups whose main or accessory objective was to impose their ideas or combat those of others by force or fear. (Art. 213 bis CP) aggravated by having the purpose of terrorize the population (Art. 41 quinqués CP) in ideal competition with having encouraged or incited the persecution or the hatred against a person or groups of people because of their race, religion, nationality or political ideas.”

“This is not an isolated performance; that is to say, Ávila was part of the terrorist structurereceived advice and direct support of the organization. In that context, he was not only ideologically aligned with the group but also received a specific manual to act alone”.

The accused had a brief stint in the Argentine Army – from which he was fired for indiscipline – and the judge analyzed that he may have entered the force with the aim of obtaining weapons knowledge.

“The evidence collected so far demonstrates the defendant’s entry into the terrorist group. Beyond the categorical messages that commit you to the possible carrying out of a violent event, It becomes evident that he not only shared and spread the group’s ideology, but that he was actively part of it.”, he stated.

The statement of Nazareno Ávila
