The engine developers at the Japanese car manufacturer Mazda are always allowed to leave the beaten path – especially in times of electrification of vehicle drives. Contrary to the trend, a six-cylinder diesel engine for the CX-60 and CX-80 models, a 2.5-liter gasoline engine for the Mazda3 and Mazda CX-30 or a Wankel engine as a range extender were recently introduced.
But the Japanese know very well that on the European market – as of now – there is no way around electrification. After the rather unfortunate all-electric Mazda MX-30, the Japanese are bringing their second all-electric model this summer: the Mazda6e.
Two drive configurations are available for the 4.92 meter long hatchback sedan, which can hook trailers weighing up to 1,500 kilograms. The Mazda6e marks the entry point with a battery pack with a usable capacity of 68.8 kilowatt hours (kWh). This should give a range of up to 479 kilometers. The electric motor in this model develops a maximum system output of 190 kW (258 hp) and provides a maximum torque of 390 Newton meters. The drive takes place via the rear wheels.
