All the attention was focused on them: More than 50 former prisoners of the German death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau and other Nazi camps took part in the memorial service in southern Poland on Monday.
There were also survivors who gave the key speeches in the afternoon: The first came from the Jewish-Polish journalist Marian Turski (98), who survived the Auschwitz, Buchenwald and Theresienstadt concentration camps. Turski has been President of the International Auschwitz Committee since June 2021. He warned of rising anti-Semitism in the present, which is the same hatred that led to the Holocaust.”
