More than half of the Austrians received booster vaccination

In Austria, at 50.3 percent, slightly more than half of the total or 52.9 percent of the vaccinable population are protected with a “booster” vaccination (third vaccination or second vaccination after recovery). At the beginning of the year it was only 40.8 or 42.9 percent – within a month the booster rate could be increased by around ten percentage points, said Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) on Tuesday.

“The fact that the Omikron variant does not currently lead to an overload of the health system is due in part to the corona vaccination. The gradual relaxation of the measures was also only made possible by the corona vaccination,” said the department head. The aim of the compulsory vaccination is to ensure that society continues to be protected as best as possible against other virus variants.

As of January 31, 6,482,618 people have an active vaccination certificate (72.57 percent of the total and 76.28 percent of the vaccinable population), 6,753,537 people have received at least one vaccination (75.60 and 79.46 percent, respectively).
