Donald Trump tore up documents during his tenure, according to the US National Archives

According to official sources, Trump routinely tore up documents and threw them away after reading them.

“These were delivered to the National Archives at the end of the Trump administration, along with a series of shattered records that had not been reconstructed by the White House,” the agency said, quoted by the ANSA and AFP news agencies.

The National Archives recently released hundreds of pages of documents from the White House when Trump was president to the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on Capitol Hill.

The records were released after a months-long court battle that culminated in the Supreme Court’s decision last month to reject Trump’s efforts to block their release.

The National Archives did not clarify in its statement whether any of the documents the committee received included the torn and re-recorded records.

According to The Washington Post, these documents are part of more than 700 pages transmitted by the National Archives to the parliamentary commission that is investigating responsibility for the coup that put American democracy in check.

Among the 700 pages are lists of those who visited Trump or called him on January 6, as well as notes taken during those exchanges.

At the same time, the commission that makes up a majority of Democratic legislators seeks to hear several relatives of the former far-right president.

Some of them received subpoenas and others, like his daughter Ivanka Trump, were simply asked to testify.

The committee’s lawmakers want to release their findings before the November midterm elections, in which Republicans could regain control of the House and bury their work.

On January 20, the Supreme Court rejected Trump’s attempt to block reports about the assault on Capitol Hill.

And ten days later, the former president promised amnesties to those responsible for the attack if he wins the 2024 elections.
