Goiserer shop relies on regional specialities

“There are more and more farmers who offer their products in refrigerators in front of the farm. I thought this offer should be bundled in one easily accessible place,” says Andreas Unterberger. The 26-year-old Goiserer has therefore opened a self-service shop with food that is as regional as possible at the southern entrance to the town, in the district of Stambach. He was supported by the local farmers and the market town of Bad Goisern, which provided him with 15 square meters of community land for the mini shop free of charge.

The offer includes the most important groceries of daily use: from grain products to fruit juices, seasonal vegetables to milk, sausage and meat products. “In Goisern itself I currently only have two suppliers”, says the young grocer. “The Schober family supplies dairy products and the Pramesberger family fruit juices.”

Customer interest is great

Andreas Unterberger called the shop “Vieh-Heli’s shop” because he is Helmut Unterberger’s son. He runs a tavern butcher’s shop (chamois sausage!) in the district of Au and has been called “Vieh-Heli” by everyone for ages. Meat products come from him, of course.

The small shop has been open for two weeks and Unterberger is very satisfied with the first sales figures. He regularly checks the store, where customers can deposit money in a box or pay with an ATM card, to refill the shelves. “The number morale is perfect,” he says. “So far I have not noticed that anyone would not have paid.”

Mayor Leopold Schilcher (SPÖ) welcomes the initiative. “More and more people want to shop more consciously and support local farmers,” he says. “Both sides benefit from this shop. This is an upgrade for our Goiserer local supply.”
