Advertising, family man, café owner: what became of Austria’s song contest representatives?

Since today, Thursday, it has been clear who will be represented in the 69th Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Basel in May. The 23-year-old singer Johannes Pietsch alias JJ jury and audience wants to convince with a mix of pop and classical music at Europe’s greatest singing competition.

The former “Starmania” candidate and countertenor, who was already successful on the state opera stage, follows in the footsteps of an illustrious series of artists who sang at the song Contest for Austria. Some people from Upper Austrians have already started at the ESC, including Waterloo & Robinson, Wilfried, Manuel Ortega or last but not least the winner from 2014, Conchita Wurst.

What became of the former ESC candidates?

While many former representatives continued their career and have long been successful in the music business, others have not remained loyal to music and have now taken other ways. We looked at what Upper Austria’s ex-song contest candidates do today.

Bobbie Singer (1999)

Tina Schosser took 10th place in 1999 as “Bobbie Singer” with “Reflection” at the Song Contest. The Buchkirchner native did without a career on stage. In 2006 she left the stage completely and now worked as a producer, composer and professional spokeswoman. The 43-year-old is now a mother of two, her voice is known from TV and advertising.
