It was in the Design Center in Linz. Viewers from big to small these days are revitalizing the huge hall, in which the “Upper Austria Ladies” tennis tournament has been taking place again since 2023. Liane Irsigler, who works as a helper at the cash register, is pleased with the rush – especially that of the children. “The school classes were visited on the first day, so it went around,” she says, who herself is involved in the ATZ Urfahr as a youth officer and looks after 150 young people and children in this function.

And yesterday a crowd of children flocked to the tournament again. This time there were 70 beginners from the Linz kindergartens who got “tips” from the world-class players. “It was a very special experience for the kids,” says Vice Mayor Karin Hörzing (SP), who had accompanied the children as a sports officer. She thanked Sandra Reichel, especially with tournament director – and of course with all players who made it possible together.
Tournament since 1991
The Linz notification tennis tournament has been around since 1991, at that time it took place in the Linz city hall on the Gugl. When it had to give way to the TIPS arena, there was a guest appearance in the Design Center from 2000 to 2003. Both “places” have their advantages, in the Design Center it is above all the short distances, because it is just half a tennis ball throw from the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, which serves as a quarters for the top athletes.
