The know-how about the cultivation of flax or seeds would almost have been forgotten. Because it seemed as if the old crop, which was once used primarily to produce fabrics and ropes, nobody needed. Almost at the last minute, Günther Rabeder and his wife Judith Deutschbauer-Rabeder decided about ten years ago to grow Lein again on their 60 hectare farm in Niederwaldkirchen and to offer its healthy oil as a regional specialty under the name Farmgoodies.
“Our plan was to detach us from the agricultural market economy by not only starting to biologically growing the raw material, but also to process it himself and further market it,” says Judith Deutschbauer-Rabeder. In 2014, the couple switched their farm from the sideline to the main acquisition, the 49-year-old now gave up their job in the marketing industry and her husband Günther (50) in the IT area.
“Even if our business idea was an experiment, we are not regretting anything, because a product to create through and through sustainably, is an extremely satisfactory work,” sums up Deutschbauer-Rabeder.
Success gives the couple right. Over the years, 50 organic farmers from Upper Austria were able to sign and gradually expand its offer. “Today we not only have our own candy products in the range, but also vinegar, mustard and mountain lenses as well as barley and wheat grass powder from other organic farms in the Mühlviertel,” the farmer lists. All of these products are characterized by their high quality and its environmentally friendly production, as the boss of Farmgoodies emphasizes.
The Rabeders’ agricultural operation has already been certified as climate -neutral. Sustainable energy procurement is also a matter of course for Bioland farmers. Energy tips are covered via the in -house photovoltaic system and the heat comes from the wood chip heating, which is fueled with wood from your own forests.
