Ajna (12) from the Wels sports agent school asks a question that Felix (7) from Lacken sent us to podcasts@nachrichten.at: You, Leo? Why don’t airplanes actually fall from heaven?
Leo replies: Airplanes weigh a hundred and more tons. In order for such a heavy vehicle to rise in the air, there must be any force that lifts it up. In order for this force to form, the plane has to move very quickly. As a result, the air grinds over the wing. These are just shaped that there is a vacuum on the top of the wing. This negative pressure, together with the pressure of the air, causes the underside of the wings that this force arises.
The starting speed, i.e. the pace that an aircraft has to achieve, that the upward power is greater than the weight of the aircraft, of course, mainly depends on weight. A transport aircraft starts at a speed of 250 – 300 km/h.
