Depression, addictions and eating disorders: mental illnesses are on the rise among young people. This also affects the working life of apprentices: sick leave due to mental illnesses have more than doubled from 2019 to 2023 from 2019.
There are many offers of help to reach the group of young people, but is a special challenge, says Kurosch Yazdi-Zorn, board member of the Clinic for Psychiatry at the Kepler University Clinic and CEO of Pro Mente Upper Austria. “Most only report after years when the problem has already grown very big.”
The topic is also increasingly open to companies, says Doris Hummer, President of the Upper Austria Chamber of Commerce. Together with Pro Mente, its own hotline – the helpline.Cehrre – was created. Those who call receive direct help from trained psychologists and social workers.
- The Free hotline Is under 0800 300 301 From Monday to Thursday (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and can be reached on Friday (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.). Also under the email address helpline.lehre@promentooe.at. The crisis aid can be reached throughout 0732 2177.
The aim is also to enable those affected to complete their training. Everyone can contact the hotline, emphasize Yazdi-Zorn and lobster: No matter whether an apprentice concerned, a parent, a trainer or boss from the company who is looking for advice. If telephone advice is not sufficient, mobile teams of the Pro Mente can also help in the company on site.
