With regard to the position of René Benko in the Signa Group he founded, Alfred Gusenbauer, ex-SPÖ Chancellor and Supervisory Board head of Signa Prime and Signa Development, has now expressed a stress. He described Benko as the “first decision-maker” of the real estate group. “There were no other decision-makers,” said the ex-chancellor according to the protocol.

Benko had the “decisive” role in Signa Holding, but also in Signa Prime and in Signa Development, said Gusenbauer. The advisory board of the holding company, which Benko officially managed, was “the big performance stage” of the Signa founder. “He told his visions here,” said Gusenbauer.

The managing directors, on the other hand, were only “extras” at the meetings. The investigators also accuse Benko of being de facto managing director of the entire group.
