During the liquidation of one of the leaders of the IS terrorist organization banned in Russia, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Kureishi, at least three civilians were killed. This statement was made on Thursday, February 3, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.
“The cowardly actions of Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi led to the tragic death of three innocent civilians,” he said.
The dead, according to Kirby, are the wife and children of the IS leader.
The Pentagon spokesman also added that more than 10 civilians were safely escorted out of the building where the terrorist was hiding.
The destruction of the leader of the group by US military personnel was announced earlier in the day by American leader Joe Biden. As specified in the White House, the operation allegedly took place in northwestern Syria.
According to media reports, the liquidated leader of the group died due to an explosion, which he himself organized.
At the same time, a representative of the Syrian National Army (SNA) announced 13 dead as a result of the US operation, including six children, four women and three men.
As the chairman of the international committee of the Syrian parliament, Butrus Marzhan, noted in an interview with Izvestia, Damascus cannot confirm the information about the destruction of the leader of the organization. He clarified that the operation took place in the city of Atma, which is under the control of Turkey, the An-Nusra group (banned in Russia) and its units. There is no Syrian army in this territory.
