The German MP appreciated the response measures of the Russian Federation to the ban on broadcasting RT DE in Germany

Russia’s step in response to the ban on the broadcasting of the RT DE TV channel in Germany is understandable, this situation occurred through the fault of the FRG. This was announced on Thursday, February 3, by Jan Nolte, a Bundestag deputy from the Alternative for Germany party, to Izvestia.

“I understand Russia’s move. Of course, it would be better if both TV channels could broadcast, but it should be noted that this situation was the fault of Germany, not Russia. Accusing RT of being one-sided is another bad joke. If we do not want one-sided broadcasting in Germany, then tomorrow we will have to ban ARD and ZDF from broadcasting,” he said.

The MP noted that over the years, public media in Germany, to which Deutsche Welle belongs, have been losing more and more trust, because they do not provide information, but convey a ready-made political opinion to the viewer. According to Nolte, the RT channel provides an opportunity to hear one more position in addition to the ready-made opinion, and then form your own opinion.

“Such an opportunity would be extremely important for a democratic state. However, I do not think that Germany will grant such a right. From this point of view, Russia’s consistent approach can be understood. The right to freedom of speech should be extended to everyone,” he concluded.

The day before, the German authorities decided to ban the broadcasting of the RT DE channel on the Eutelsat satellite, smart TV, the RT website and application, and the Odyssey platform.

RT expressed the opinion that the actions of the German media regulator are illegal and violate the European Convention on Cross-border Television (ECTT).

The Russian authorities, as part of the first stage of response to the ban on RT DE broadcasting in Germany, decided to close the correspondent office of the German television and radio company Deutsche Welle in Russia.

In addition, the departments responsible for implementing the decision in the Russian Federation plan to cancel the accreditations of all employees of the Russian bureau of the television and radio company, ban satellite and other Deutsche Welle broadcasts in the country, and also initiate consideration of the issue of recognizing the German company as a foreign media agent.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that “the verdict of the German media regulator is an unambiguous signal that Russian concerns have been defiantly ignored.” Moscow is forced to start implementing retaliatory measures against accredited German media outlets, the Russian ministry said.
