Syria says 13 killed in US operation to kill ISIS leader

In Syria, 13 people died as a result of the US operation to destroy the leader of the IS terrorist group banned in Russia. This was announced on February 3 by a representative of the Syrian National Army (SNA).

“According to the information we received, 13 people died, including six children, four women and three men,” he told RIA Novosti.

The interlocutor of the publication also clarified that during the operation one of the helicopters of the US Armed Forces failed and was destroyed by American drones.

According to him, some civilians died as a result of a rocket hitting the second floor of a residential building. The death of the rest was the result of clashes and self-explosion of a suicide bomber.

SNA is an armed formation of the Syrian opposition, which is supported by the Turkish authorities.

The destruction of the leader of the group by US military personnel was announced earlier in the day by American leader Joe Biden. As specified in the White House, we are talking about Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi. The operation allegedly took place in northwestern Syria.

It is planned that against the backdrop of what happened, Biden will make an appeal to US citizens on February 3.

According to media reports, the liquidated leader of the group died due to an explosion, which he himself organized.

At the same time, the chairman of the international committee of the Syrian parliament, Butrus Marzhan, told Izvestia that Damascus could not confirm the information about the destruction of the leader of the organization. He clarified that the operation took place in the city of Atma, which is under the control of Turkey, the An-Nusra group (banned in Russia) and its units. There is no Syrian army in this territory.

On January 22, the Syrian Foreign Ministry again demanded the withdrawal of the US military contingent from the northeast of the country. According to Damascus, the actions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and US aviation led to the destruction of infrastructure in the province of Hasakeh. Syrian authorities equated the actions of US forces and SDF militants “to war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
