Damascus does not confirm US data on the destruction of the leader of the ISIS in Idlib

Damascus cannot confirm US reports about the destruction of the leader of the terrorist organization “Islamic State” (IS) banned in Russia in Idlib. This was stated to Izvestia by the chairman of the international committee of the Syrian parliament, Butrus Marzhan.

“The information received from the site is inaccurate, so it cannot be confirmed. Moreover, there is some secrecy in this area. Of course, the clashes were fierce, the confrontation between the terrorists lasted several hours, the US army retreated only early in the morning, ”he said on February 3.

Marzhan clarified that the operation took place in the city of Atma, which is under the control of Turkey, the An-Nusra group (banned in Russia) and its units. There is no Syrian army in this territory.

In turn, the Deputy Chairman of the International Committee of the Syrian Parliament Ammar Al-Assad spoke about the consequences of the operation.

The “hero scenario” of the Americans failed for two reasons: the first is the large number of losses among the attacking forces, that is, the United States itself, as well as the loss of a helicopter by them. The second is the loss among the civilian population in the region,” he stressed.

The destruction of the leader of the group by US military personnel was announced earlier in the day by American leader Joe Biden. As specified in the White House, we are talking about Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi. The operation allegedly took place in northwestern Syria.

It is planned that against the backdrop of what happened, Biden will make an appeal to US citizens on February 3.

On January 22, the Syrian Foreign Ministry again demanded the withdrawal of the US military contingent from the northeast of the country. According to Damascus, the actions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and US aviation led to the destruction of infrastructure in the province of Hasakah. Syrian authorities equated the actions of US forces and SDF militants “to war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
