The time had come on Wednesday: Together with Commission Vice President Raffaele Fitto, the new EU agricultural commissioner Christophe Hansen presented the new “vision” for agriculture and nutrition in Europe.
The goal is a more competitive European agricultural industry with simpler and tailor -made solutions and a focus on sustainability. This is how the plans look:
Common agricultural policy (Gap): The current financial period in the EU is still running until 2027, but negotiations begin how the billion -dollar agricultural subsidies are then distributed. The direct payments, which are transferred for every hectare and benefit from which large companies benefit greatly, should remain in principle. In the future, however, Hansen wants to support farmers who really need it who really need to produce food and “actively contribute to nutritional security, the economic vitality of the companies and to maintain our environment”. There should be more money for environmental services such as biodiversity, climate and animal welfare. And Hansen cited Austria as a positive example in the promotion of young farmers.
