Freistadt residents tirelessly oppose nuclear power

During a walk in the fresh air, Environment and Climate Minister Stefan Kaineder exchanged views with the Anti-Nuclear Committee in Freistadt. One of the topics was the current taxonomy regulation of the European Commission, according to which nuclear power should be classified as “green”. In addition, Provincial Councilor Kaineder informed himself from the actors of the Anti-Nuclear Committee about their current work priorities, such as a petition against a nuclear waste repository on the Austrian-Czech border.

“The past few days and weeks in particular have shown how important it is to have support from the population when it comes to the joint fight against nuclear power,” said Kaineder, thanking everyone involved in the anti-nuclear committee in Freistadt. For decades, the anti-nuclear committee has been fighting across party lines against nuclear power and against a nuclear waste repository near the border. “We can consider ourselves lucky that we have such strong allies in Upper Austria as the Anti-Nuclear Committee, who also make a significant contribution to raising awareness through lectures and workshops,” said Provincial Councilor Stefan Kaineder after his visit to Freistadt.
