“I’m already in the hospital because I will be operated on tomorrow,” said Felix Breit, middle blocker of the UVC McDonald’s Ried, on Wednesday evening when calling the OÖN. Yesterday the 30-year-old Rieder was operated on the nasal septum. This means that broadly, at least for the quarter-final series against UVC Graz. The first home game of the series next Sunday, February 23 (8:20 p.m.) will have to be followed broadly at home in front of the television.
OÖN: An operation on the nasal septum three days before the first quarter-final game-how did it come about?
Felix Breit: I identified this operation a year and a half ago. A shift to spring or summer was not an option due to my strong hay fever. To be honest, when I made an appointment, I did not think that I will play in the Bundesliga this season. I will be on sick leave for around two weeks after the operation. Then I hope for a relatively quick comeback. My goal is to be used this season.
How bitter is this constellation for you?
Well, already bitter. I was relatively a lot on the field in the basic round. The last game in Hartberg was one of my best this year. I don’t think I would only have been sitting on the bench in the play-offs. But I have to accept it and of course I can live with it because I have known the appointment for the whole season. The trainer has known it for a long time, I said it to my colleagues at short notice.
