A fire broke out last night in the basement of an apartment building in Altheim (Braunau district). There was a strong smoke development, the smoke spread throughout the staircase. “The residents could all bring themselves to safety,” said Altheim’s fire brigade commander Mario Grabner. On the one hand, the alarmed fire brigades immediately made the fire fighting with a respiratory protection squad, another squad also checked the apartments. “When it was clear that all residents were out, we were able to concentrate entirely on the fire fighting from the inside,” said Grabner.
The operation lasted more than five hours. The residents were advised to look for a different accommodation for the night. “They have all stayed with relatives or friends,” said Grabner. Two of the residents were brought to the hospital for security with suspected flue gas poisoning.
