Germany registers a new record with more than 208,000 cases of Covid-19

The number of cases thus exceeds the previous maximum, recorded on January 27, when the authorities confirmed 203,136 infections, the Europa Press news agency reported.

The agency stated that the accumulated incidence rate during the last seven days is 1,227.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with 1,020,757 positives during the last week.

This figure exceeded one million on Tuesday for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

The Robert Koch Institute also stressed that there are currently about 2,278,900 active cases and set the number of people recovered from Covid-19 at about 7,789,600, including around 84,600 medical discharges during the last 24 hours.

For this reason, the government spokesman, Steffen Hebestreit, stated yesterday that it is premature to start a reduction in restrictions.

“The moment we feel we can relax responsibly, this federal government and all (federated) state governments will take exactly that step,” he said.
