32,258 new infections and 22 deaths in 24 hours

Last week, 34,748 cases were counted on Saturday. The seven-day incidence therefore also fell from 2,564.2 to 2,536.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The number of new infections within a day is below the average of the past seven days with 32,366 cases. However, the number of active cases reached a new record at 343,333. That’s 4,206 more than the day before.

There was also an increase in hospital occupancy. There are currently 1,883 Covid 19 patients in the hospital. That is 76 more than on Friday. 198 people have to be treated in intensive care. This number has dropped by one patient since yesterday, but has increased by 27 people within a week. 22 deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours. 137 deaths have been registered in the past seven days. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 14,214 lives in Austria since it broke out.

189 million tests since the pandemic began

Slightly fewer tests were registered from Friday to Saturday, a total of 793,230 PCR and antigen rapid tests, most of which, namely 622,529, were meaningful PCR tests. The positive rate of the PCR tests was 5.2 percent. Over 189 million tests have been conducted since the pandemic began.

The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Vorarlberg with 2,903.5, followed by Tyrol with 2,888.5, Styria with 2,647.5 and Upper Austria with 2,604. Then follow Vienna (2,599.8), Salzburg (2,589), Carinthia (2,265.7), Lower Austria (2,248.8) and Burgenland, which with an incidence of 1,972.6 remained the only federal state below the 2,000 mark. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,670,057 people have recovered from an infection.

On the day that compulsory vaccination came into force, Burgenland had the highest vaccination coverage (valid vaccination certificate) at 75.3 percent. In Lower Austria 71.2 percent of the population have a valid vaccination protection, in Styria 70.4 percent. After Vienna (68.1), Tyrol (67.6), Carinthia (65.9), Salzburg (65.7) and Upper Austria (65), Vorarlberg brings up the rear with 64.8 percent.

On Friday, 33,120 vaccinations were carried out, of which 2,024 were first bites, 6,124 second bites and 24,972 third bites. 6,180,987 people and thus 69.2 percent of Austrians have a valid vaccination.
