Franz Wagner was Austria’s youngest restaurateur when he opened the “Butterfly” in his parents’ house in Prambachkirchen in 1975. “He needed an exceptional permit so that he was allowed to do the concession test at 17,” says his brother Klaus Wagner, who took over the fly in 1994. The parents Maria and Franz, even restaurateurs, supported the idea of a discotheque in the centuries -old Kolmgut. It should be shown that they have proven good business sense.
On March 22nd, the Fly will celebrate its 50th anniversary from 10 p.m. “Before that there is a celebration for invited guests, at which we look back on this time. There will be many regular guests who used to be with us in the past,” says Wagner. Governor Thomas Stelzer has also announced his coming.
Entertainment with quality
While numerous nightlocks have disappeared in recent years, the fly is well visited every Saturday. “We know our guests. The motto is ‘We are family’,” says Berger.
Due to the location, the restaurant offered experience catering early: “At peak times, we sent invitations to 4000 people. We bought records in London, Munich and Vienna. We thought about something for every evening and always did a review.” This claim was also held by the new operators, says Wagner.
In 2017, Martin Reitstätter and Lukas Berger took over the fly. The two are also known for their successful series of events “Austria Goes Zrce” in Croatia. It was important to them to maintain the high standards in the Fly, says Reitstätter: “People give us their most valuable free time, Saturday evening. We always try to attack and set trends.”
