The right-wing Rally National presidential candidate Marine Le Pen has vowed that France will leave NATO if it wins the presidential election. Her speech to voters in Reims on February 5 is broadcast by BFM.TV.
According to the politician, France must withdraw from military blocs and protect its own interests.
“Therefore, we will withdraw from the NATO Joint Command so that we can no longer be dragged into other people’s conflicts,” Le Pen said.
As she added, France is “eluding the French” in “the great washing machine of the new century that seems to be disappearing from the Europeans.”
In January, far-right presidential candidate Eric Zemmour, head of the Reconquest party, called for lifting European sanctions on Russia. In his opinion, the United States is engaged in setting up European countries against Russia, since they have a large territory and influence in the political arena.
On January 7, an Ipsos poll showed incumbent President Emmanuel Macron’s high chances for re-election. The closest rival of the current leader is the National Rally candidate Marine Le Pen. In third place is Republican candidate Valerie Pekress. Fourth place in the first round, according to Ipsos forecast, will go to far-right politician Eric Zemmour.
The presidential elections in France will be held in April 2022.
