She wanted to offer help to Alzheimer’s patients and their families. Zehetner started as a lone wolf, but with the help of Edith Span and Stefanie Auer, she built her initiative into a professional organization that now has more than 70 employees at seven locations (including Bad Ischl and Gmunden) nationwide.
The balance of the past 25 years is impressive. More than 800 dementia trainers have been trained throughout Austria. There are also 600 active trainers and more than 500 volunteers trained. More than 500 couples have taken advantage of the Alzheimer’s holiday, a relief without separation. A memory course was created in Bad Ischl. The MAS Alzheimerhilfe was involved in several research projects and, in cooperation with the Danube University Krems, made more than 14,000 police officers fit for dementia. For the round anniversary, the organization presents a new offer with hourly support for people with dementia. The aim is to continue to enable as many people with dementia and their relatives as possible to lead a good life with dementia.
