Katharina Truppe on RTL on course for a medal

The 26-year-old from Carinthia finished second, three tenths of a second behind Swedish leader Sara Hector. Troupe, who had achieved their best placing of the season with ninth place in Lienz, was surprised by their time at the finish. Federica Brignone (ITA) is third, 0.42 seconds back.

Truppe mastered the steep starting slope as if on rails and has a lead of 0.62 seconds over fourth place, Slovenian Meta Hrovat. “During the ride it was difficult to say whether you were doing well or badly because the snow is relatively easy for me to ski. You feel good relatively quickly. I looked for the time table at the finish and was really happy when I saw the two. But only half the fish has been cleaned,” said Truppe. “In the second round it’s time to look for the limit again, I’d like to stay where I am, it’s time to step on the gas.”

The second round will not follow until 7.30 a.m. CET (live ORF 1) due to the inserted men’s downhill run. Troop’s plan for the four-hour break: “There will be a nap and I’ll watch the video. There’s still something in the final slope.”

The other Austrians fell more or less clearly. Katharina Liensberger, third in the World Championships, lost 1.78 seconds (“It would have been more direct”) and was 13th after 40 runners, Ramona Siebenhofer was even 2.30 seconds behind (19th). Stephanie Brunner dropped out. The co-favorites Mikaela Shiffrin (USA), the 2018 Olympic champion, and the Italian Marta Bassino fared no better than the Tyrolean.

Siebenhofer said she’s just having a hard time here. “But there were rides in training, I felt better there. Now I haven’t gotten to the point.”
