Electromobility is popular in Upper Austria. According to data from Statistics Austria, 6,668 e-cars were registered in Upper Austria last year. The highest value of all federal states.
This development should also be increasingly reflected in the state’s vehicle fleet in the future. The state government will decide today on an application according to which at least 375 company cars with “alternative drives” should be purchased by 2030. Every second newly purchased car in the country should then no longer run on petrol or diesel.
“We are also consistently pursuing our path of sustainability in state service – in particular by making our state vehicles more ecological and switching to alternative drives,” explains Governor Thomas Stelzer (VP) of the government application. Upper Austria is now a leading location for the application and development of electric mobility. However, the growing number of e-cars also requires a new infrastructure. The network of charging stations is to be massively expanded. By 2025, 10,000 public charging points for electric vehicles are to be built in the country. Together with the private offers, around 100,000 charging stations should then be available nationwide. In addition, the construction of fast charging stations is supported with tax money.
According to the Verkehrsclub Österreich (VCÖ), Austria was third in the EU in terms of new registrations of e-cars behind the Netherlands and Sweden.
