Previously, the Green Passport was only valid for six months. An unlimited validity of their Green Passport also serves those who became infected after two doses of vaccination and have since recovered. The easing that will apply from Monday also includes the fact that vaccinated or recovered students no longer have to go to distance learning. However, the new regulations are causing controversy. The rules governing distance learning in schools would discriminate against unvaccinated children, the Lega, which is co-governing in Rome, protested. The opposition party “Fratelli d Italia” (Brothers of Italy – FdI) called for the abolition of the green passport, which has become necessary almost everywhere in Italy, in view of the falling number of infections.
“The point is that the Green Passport was a total failure, it only served to kill the economy even more and create social tensions and discrimination. The pass should not be changed, it should simply be abolished,” the Fratelli boss demanded d’Italia, Giorgia Meloni.
After the number of infections also skyrocketed in Italy, optimism is now growing. That’s because hospitals are still a long way from being overcrowded. Politicians are considering an end to the state of emergency after March 31 and many measures. The obligation to wear masks outdoors is likely to expire at the end of this week. However, Italy links all opening steps to the vaccinations: Only with a 2G proof you are allowed in hotels, restaurants, in the cinema, in buses and trains, at public events.
Foreigners have been able to go to hotels or restaurants again since last week, even if they are not vaccinated or recovered. But you have to show a negative test. The new regulation also affects people who have been vaccinated with a preparation that is not approved in the EU. The 2G rule applies to Italians in gastronomy.
