The Rallye Club Mühlviertel will not hold the January rylle 2022. The reason is – as reported – the prescribed spectator restrictions, which could not be increased for the outdoor area. Although concepts with seats or 50-person zones along the route have been intensively examined, they are not realistic and economically feasible.
“We really fought with all means to get the event going and left no stone unturned until the end. The conditions for the 50 person zones with a distance of approx. 10 meters between them and a structural separation are unrealistic. Unfortunately, these federal regulations say that events without seats should not take place outdoors either,” said Rallye Club Mühlviertel chairman Christian Birklbauer on Monday morning. “Now we need some time to relax. I hope that we can finally get going again in early 2023.”
Deputy chairman David Glachs sees the situation in a similar way: “Even if we had decided to drive with the restrictions, we would have had enormous costs and effort to hire the appropriate security personnel with more than 200 additional people throughout the entire rally area. In terms of sport, it would have been an extremely interesting field of participants, which makes the pain even greater. It is really sad that all the work goes unrewarded now!”
Georg Höfer, managing director of Jännerrallye Freistadt gGmbH, who had hoped until the very end that spectator participation would be corrected upwards, is bitterly disappointed. “We really tried everything and never gave up hope of bringing the 36th edition to the stage this year. We would like to say thank you: to the communities, the friendly clubs, the voluntary fire brigades and all the helpers, who this time impressed us even more with their commitment! Not only we in the organization team, but also hundreds of volunteers invested their free time in the January rally for months.”
