According to police, two other people were injured. At around 6:00 a.m., the Russian drove his van into the oncoming lane for reasons that were initially unknown and crashed into an oncoming truck. He died, his passenger, a 54-year-old Russian, and the 43-year-old truck driver from Carinthia were injured.
The 51-year-old was trapped in the vehicle during the accident, and the fire brigade salvaged him from the wreck. Despite resuscitation by the emergency doctor, the man died at the scene of the accident. His work colleague was taken to the Klagenfurt hospital with serious injuries, and the truck driver was injured and taken to the Friesach hospital. For the duration of the accident investigation and vehicle recovery, the Görtschitztal federal road (B92) between Hornburg and Klein St. Paul was closed to all traffic until 10:00 a.m. and was still difficult to pass until 1:00 p.m.
