Three people were injured in consecutive traffic accidents on the Westautobahn (A1) in the Melk area on Monday morning. According to police spokesman Johann Baumschlager, a total of twelve vehicles were involved. The A1 was temporarily closed in the direction of Salzburg, and extensive traffic jams formed.
According to Baumschlager, four collisions occurred within a range of a few hundred meters. Two people were injured when a car collided with two trucks. One person also sustained injuries in a collision involving four cars. All three injured were taken to the state clinic in Melk.
Two other traffic accidents involving a total of five vehicles were registered between Loosdorf (Melk district) and Melk. There was property damage, no one was injured.
