Energy, software, aircraft: What is researched in the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria

In 2024, 242 FH professors and 230 employees researched 547 projects.

Research is an economic sector that has increased despite the recession. The Research and Development GmbH of the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences generated sales of 34.2 million euros in the previous year- an increase of almost 13 percent compared to 2023. The participations, such as the transfer center for plastic technology (TCKT), are also counted. Sales in the area have more than doubled within ten years.

Applied research is operated in ten disciplines: The strongest segments are information and communication technology (Hagenberg), Energy (Wels), logistics (Steyr) and medical technology in Linz. Hydrogen research also gains in importance, says the FH Vice President Johann Kastner responsible for research.

Order level at a record level

The order status reached a record value in 2024 with 54.2 million euros. There are projects with more than 600 institutions and companies – two thirds of which are small and medium -sized companies. The industrial revenue was 6.6 million euros in 2024.

“Applied research at the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences is of central importance for the innovation advantage of the Upper Austria business location,” said Markus Achleitner (VP), which is responsible for business and research.
