Italy will abolish the obligation to wear masks outdoors from Friday

As of next Friday (February 11), the mask requirement outdoors will fall, Health State Secretary Andrea Costa announced on Monday. Discos and dance halls could also reopen on the same day, Italian media reported.

At the same time, there is a discussion about how long the 2G obligation, which is necessary in Italy for access to the workplace, bars and public transport, should continue to apply. “The Green Passport will be redesigned as the pandemic situation evolves. Depending on the situation, we will take the most appropriate decisions towards relaxing the measures,” assured another Secretary of State from the Ministry of Health, Pierpaolo Sileri.

The indefinite extension of the Green Passport for boosted men and women came into force in Italy on Monday. Previously, the Green Passport was only valid for six months. An unlimited validity of their Green Passport also serves those who became infected after two doses of vaccination and have since recovered. The easing that will apply from Monday also includes the fact that vaccinated or recovered students no longer have to go to distance learning.
