The US State Department refused to comment on the deployment of THAAD complexes in Ukraine

The official representative of the US State Department, Ned Price, on Monday, February 7, during a briefing, refused to comment on the deployment of American THAAD mobile anti-missile systems on the territory of Ukraine. The broadcast was on Twitter foreign policy department.

“I can’t talk about steps that have not been announced, which are hypothetical and may not take place,” he said.

Earlier in the day, a diplomatic source reported that Kiev asked Washington to deploy several divisions of THAAD complexes near Kharkov.

In response, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the deployment of American THAAD air defense systems in the Kharkiv region would be another step towards destabilizing the security situation.

According to him, the AN / TPY-2 radar station is part of the complex. Its deployment may allow Kiev and its NATO allies to “look” deep into Russian territory at a distance of up to 1,000 km.

Earlier on Monday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba announced that Kiev had received $1.5 billion in support from the West in recent months. According to him, the volume of weapons and military equipment delivered to the country exceeded 1,000 tons.

Against the backdrop of widespread speculation about Russia’s allegedly impending invasion of Ukraine, Western countries have increased its military support. So, on February 4, Canada sent a transport aircraft with non-lethal weapons to Ukraine. Earlier, the Canadian government decided to allocate $340 million for immediate support to Kiev. The United States has provided military assistance to the country several times since the beginning of the year. The Czech Republic plans to send 152 mm heavy artillery shells here.

Lithuania intends to donate thermal imaging devices to the Ukrainian army free of charge. Germany will provide Ukraine with 5,000 military helmets, and Berlin has allocated €5.3 million for a mobile field hospital for the Ukrainian army and will train Ukraine in its construction and use.

The Russian side has repeatedly denied accusations of possible aggression and pointed out that the militarization of Ukraine leads to an aggravation in the Donbass.

On January 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was not going to start a war with Ukraine, and Western countries and the United States were “hysterically” developing the topic of a threat to Ukraine from the Russian Federation instead of forcing Ukraine to comply with the Minsk agreements.
