The Chavista dictatorship also issued a statement in which it described the tariff as an arbitrary, illegal and desperate decision by Washington.

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, lashed out on Monday against the new tariff announced by his pair in the United States, Donald Trump, which imposes a 25% tax on countries that buy Venezuelan oil or gas. The measure seeks to increase the pressure on the Chavista regime, amid new complaints of the mass export of criminals towards US territory.

From an act transmitted by the Venezuelan TV (VTV) official channel, Maduro said that the sanctions will not stop their government: “We defeat them yesterday and those that come will also defeat them with work. They can sanction and put tariffs to what they want. What they cannot sanction is the love and patriotism of the Venezuelan people “Maduro said.

The imposition of the new tariff coincides with a rebound of complaints for political persecution, censures the media and criminalization of the dissent.

Trump, on the other hand, made the announcement through his social truth network, in which he confirms that any nation that maintains commercial relations with the Chavista regime in energy matters must pay a 25% tariff on said transactions.

Trump charged against Venezuelan criminals in the United States

The Republican leader specifically pointed to the Aragua Train as a Venezuelan criminal group supported by Maduro, declared as a foreign terrorist organization for its expansion and transnational criminal activities.

The US government deported undocumented Venezuelans accused of being part of different criminal gangs in the United States. Maduro rejected the accusations and described them as: “The greatest lie that has ever been said about our country.”

International condemnation to Venezuela

The European Union, the OAS and multiple human rights defenders have denounced the illegitimate nature of the electoral process and have intensified the diplomatic fence on the Venezuelan regime. The imposition of the new tariff coincides with a rebound of complaints for political persecution, censures the media and criminalization of the dissent.
