The Kremlin called the de-escalation of the situation around Ukraine “very necessary”

The Kremlin believes that the de-escalation of the situation around Ukraine is now very necessary, tension is growing day by day, including because of the supply of weapons to Kiev. This was announced on February 8 by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“As for de-escalation, it is very necessary, because the tension is growing day by day. We see how Western countries send troops to Ukraine, send planes loaded with weapons, send military equipment. Ukraine is conducting maneuvers, just these days, testing new models of equipment that it receives. All this, of course, provokes new and new rounds of tension, ”he said.

The Kremlin spokesman denied the Financial Times article that Russian and French Presidents Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron allegedly agreed that the Russian Federation would withdraw its military from Belarus after the end of joint exercises.

“Financial Times, of course, wrote wrong, basically wrong. In the current situation, Moscow and Paris could not conclude any deals, it is simply impossible. Because France is both a member of the EU and the EU Presidency, France is also a member of NATO, where France does not have the leadership, the leadership belongs to a completely different country in this bloc. And what deals can we talk about here? Peskov noted.

Earlier in the day, Secretary of State at the French Foreign Ministry Clement Bon said that after the meeting between Putin and Macron, there is hope for dialogue and de-escalation of the situation in Ukraine.

The talks between Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron took place on Monday, February 7, in Moscow. The conversation between the two leaders lasted more than five hours. The politicians began their conversation in the representative office of the first building of the Kremlin, and continued over a working lunch. The meeting ended around midnight, after which the presidents of Russia and France held a final press conference.

Putin, as part of a conversation with reporters, stressed that statements about the aggression of the Russian Federation “at least do not correspond to sound logic.” He also pointed out that the further expansion of NATO to the borders of the Russian Federation poses a threat, and in the event of a military conflict between Russia and the alliance, there will be no winners. In addition, the Russian leader called on Ukraine to comply with the Minsk agreements. Putin noted that there is no alternative to these agreements.

After meeting with the Russian President, the French leader intends to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev on February 8.
