“Many women prefer to do endurance training because they fear that they will build a muscle volume to be too masculine with strength training. Strength training would be particularly important for women.

“When we strengthen our muscles, it has so many advantages,” she explains: We prevent injuries or diseases such as osteoporosis, compensate for natural muscle loss in old age and help our body to stay tight. In addition, a trained muscle burns more calories than an untrained in everyday life.

“This means that we not only burn calories during training, but also have a so -called afterbreaking effect. The muscle still needs energy afterwards, and we can, put it simply, to keep our weight more to keep our weight than with untrained muscles,” explains Henkel, who calls up on TV1 Oberösterreich every day with her “Fit with Mena” program.

Training with your own body weight

“These 15 minutes are possible in between with most, and they really pay off. The best day to start with it is today,” she says of her show, which has been running since February. Because strength training is not only possible with weights in the gym. “There are so many exercises with your own body weight that can demand quite a bit,” she says. “Grab a mat and off we go!”

She also shows her favorite exercises on the show. This includes the classic push -up (“also likes to do with the knees”), the plank (“forearm support with a straight body like a board”), the “dips” (“trains the upper arm back against sluggish winting arms”) and the squat (“a classic that trains the whole body when you stretch your arms up at the same time”).

It is important not to overwhelm yourself at the beginning, but to put small goals. “Let’s take the forearm support: Maybe today you can only keep it five seconds, but tomorrow seven or ten seconds. These small successes that keep motivation to stay there,” says the Linzer.
