Short approach, airy rope bridges, small tests of courage: the via ferrata through the postal makers is considered an action -packed tourist attraction and attracts the masses, especially in summer. Already challenging in normal conditions, the ferrata rated with D as “difficult” is a company that is not to be underestimated in wet or in winter. A family from Israel had to experience this firsthand on Tuesday evening. The four climbers triggered the use of mountain rescue at around 8 p.m. because they could no longer continue in the upper area.
Lost in the snow orientation
According to mountain rescue, about 30 centimeters of fresh snow had fallen on the Postalm in the past few days. “The family had lost their orientation in the snowy terrain,” says Strobl branch manager Matthias Unterberger. 13 Strobler mountain rescuers got into the gorge to the family. “We first looked after the heavily hypothermic athletes,” said Unterberger. Then the quartet was brought out of the via ferrata using a rope railing.
