“The new places of the UTC Ried should be finished by May,” the OÖN headlined on November 7, 2024. This schedule was more than complied with: Last weekend, the first balls were beaten on the generally renovated complex. “We were really lucky with the weather. The companies involved in the site building did an excellent job,” says Florian Reiter, the sporting director of UTC Fischer Ried.
The five tennis courts were equipped with a modern irrigation system, the paths were made barrier -free as well as the cloakrooms. Until Good Friday, the places are still gently “recorded”. The facility may only be entered with the association’s managers.
Places were 50 years old
A little more than 600,000 euros were invested in the urgently needed renovation of the more than 50 years old places. There were funding from the municipality of Ried and the state of Upper Austria. An official open house is planned on Saturday, April 26th. “However, the facility will be open to all tennis players beforehand,” says Reiter. The new facility should become even more a training center for young players from the region, and numerous events and tournaments are also planned.
The sporting figurehead of the UTC Ried is the women’s team, which has been in the Bundesliga for many years. In the past two seasons, the UTC-Ried women each made it into the final, where you had both left out against Linz AG Team Upper Austria. The first men’s team plays in the Oberliga, the highest league in Upper Austria. In late summer, tennis district championships are planned again this year, for the first time since 2019.
Padel tennis should come
On the area where there used to be three other places, an external provider, as reported, is planned for a padel tennis system. “My level of knowledge is that a noise report was submitted to the municipality of Ried. Now you are waiting for the tender of a building negotiation. If there is a green light from the city, I assume that the paddle facility will come,” says Reiter.
