In almost optimal external conditions, the Kenyer Amos Kipprich KiPragat won the 23rd Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon in the personal best of 2:07:58 hours after a strong finish. He left his compatriots Kirop Kimutai (2:08:03), Abednego Cheruiyot (2:08:04), Hillry Biwott Chemweno (2:09:19), Victor Kiplimo (2:11:00) and Albert Kangogo (2:11:36).
“I am very grateful to have become the first here. It’s nice that I undercut my record by four minutes,” said the 39-year-old KiPlagat: “I didn’t expect victory for a long time, then I put on the pace.”
Favorite Mario Bauernfeind, who became the best in the overall ranking as the best non-expert (2:23:41 hours), was the red-white-red state champion. Markus Lemp was ninth ninth in 2:24:57 and Austria’s number two. “This title was very important to me, I am glad that I succeeded,” said Bauernfeind.
Route record for women
For women, Gladys Jerop Kimaina was the acclaimed triumphant. The 32-year-old Kenyan pulverized the previous route record in 2:24:58 hours, which compatriot Teclah Chebet 2023 (then 2:27:18 hours) had set up.
“This is my fastest time, I gave everything to run such a quick race,” said Kimaina: “The weather was very fine, not too hot.”
Three Eferdingers were top in the half marathon
Martin Enzenberger crowned himself in 1:09:48 hours as the winner in the Fussl half marathon, in which the Stockerl was reserved for Eferdinger.
“This is because of our vinegar gurker,” said third -placed Fabian Eichhorn (1:11:49) with a smile. His narrow compatriot Rafael Lukatsch (1:10:03) landed in front of him.
“The goal was already to run the first place. The past two weeks were not that easy, I had a cooling,” said Enzenberger: “It is great, the conditions were great. You couldn’t have imagined it better. This is the greatest thing I have achieved so far. I won the quarter marathon here two years ago.”
Kerstin Springer was unable to beat for women – 1:18:04 hours. The Rohrbacher had ranked second in 2024 and won the quarter marathon in Linz in 2022. This time Springer prevailed clearly in front of Amelie (1:20:03) and Slovakin Nina Gubanc (1:21:55).
By the way, Kerstin Springer was also the starting runner of a family relay. She also handed over to Papa Franz. Also with the game: brother Stefan and Mama Andrea.
The first word, in the absence of Upper Austria’s athlete of the year, had Florian Brungraber (neck problems), 14 athletes tackled the selective ascendor half marathon.
The race became a solo ride for Alexander Gritsch. The 42-year-old Tyrolean, who won the bronze medal at the Paralympics 2021 in Tokyo, prevailed in 30:26 minutes.
