“green” nuclear power – German Environment Minister does not rule out legal action

With regard to the lawsuit announced by Austria, she said at an event on Wednesday, according to the “Tagesspiegel”: “I don’t know the Austrian lawsuit yet. We will examine what aspects are presented there and how important they are.”

“It’s ‘greenwashing’ what happens when you try to stick a sustainability seal on it for the long-term,” Lemke said of the EU Commission’s decision. The minister spoke at the “Europe 2022” conference, which was organized by “Tagesspiegel”, “Zeit”, “Handelsblatt” and “Wirtschaftswoche”.

Controversial regulation

Last week, the European Commission classified nuclear energy and gas as sustainable, which in some cases caused massive resistance. The German federal government had opposed the inclusion of nuclear power in the so-called Taxonomy Ordinance, but agreed to the classification of gas. Climate Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) announced a lawsuit against the inclusion of nuclear and gas.
