Moscow will receive diplomats from the Taliban

Russia is ready to accept several diplomats from the Taliban (the organization is under UN sanctions for terrorist activities) in addition to those currently working in the Afghan embassy in Moscow. This was stated in an interview with Izvestiya on the eve of the Day of the Diplomat by the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Afghanistan, Director of the Second Department of Asia at the Foreign Ministry Zamir Kabulov.

According to him, the current Afghan official authorities have asked to accredit “2-3 diplomats” representing the movement in Moscow. At the same time, Kabulov stressed that the Taliban are not raising the issue of removing the current ambassador from his duties, it is only about an additional rotation.

“We agree that such diplomats should come, and then this is an internal affair of the Afghan authorities themselves and their embassies, we do not interfere in such processes,” Zamir Kabulov said.

At present, the Afghan diplomatic mission in Russia is headed by Said Tayeb Javad, appointed to this position under the former government of Afghanistan. Back in November, he acknowledged that financial problems had forced the embassy to halve its staff. But at the same time, he made it clear that the diplomatic mission did not need reinforcements from the Taliban authorities. Moreover, against the background of rumors about the intention of the Taliban government to change the ambassador in Moscow, Mr. Javad said that the Taliban had no right to appoint heads of diplomatic missions, since the movement had not received international recognition.
