Russia is counting on an early meeting of the Middle East Quartet at the ministerial level. This was stated by Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov in an interview with Izvestia.
“Our proposal to hold a ministerial meeting of the Quartet was definitely not rejected, it is all being discussed. We hope that in the near future, or when favorable conditions arise, such a meeting will take place. We consider it important in order to maintain momentum or, rather, give new momentum to the Middle East settlement, despite the differences in the positions of the parties to this conflict,” the ambassador specified.
At the same time, he stressed that the Quartet, which includes the Russian Federation, the United States, the UN and the EU, is the only legally recognized international mechanism to promote the settlement of the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
