A tragic accident on one of the Feldkirchner swimming lakes where a four -year -old child drowned was the trigger. Christopher Brummayer was a witness, and together with Melissa Rabeder, who, like him, is involved in the Bad Mühlacken fire brigade, he considered how such tragedies can be prevented in the future.
In 2020, the two began to develop an innovative lifesaver t-shirt called “Airmate”, which recognizes using sensors when a child falls into the water. The electronic trigger opens a CO2 cartridge in an emergency that the shirt inflates within seconds. “In contrast to a life jacket, the child is automatically turned on the back of our T-shirt and stabilized the head,” explains Brummayer, who studied at the University of Applied Sciences in Wels. As soon as the T-shirt is inflated, an emergency tone is also given and it starts to flash so that people in the area become aware of it.
