US deploys nuclear-capable B-52H bombers to Britain

The United States has deployed a group of B-52H strategic bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons to a base in the UK. This was reported on Thursday, February 10, on the website of the US Air Force Command in Europe.

“B-52H Stratofortress aircraft, support equipment and personnel of the 5th Bombardment Wing from Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, arrived at RAF Fairford in England today,” the statement said.

The command noted that the bombers arrived to “perform a long-planned mission of an operational bomber group” as part of a regular series of joint missions of the European command of the armed forces (AF) of the United States and the strategic command of the American armed forces, reports RT.

Four B-52Hs took off from their Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota around 2 a.m. GMT, writes Deeside.com.

Earlier in the day, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the alliance was exploring the possibility of a long-term deployment of battlegroups in the Black Sea in Romania, NSN reports.

He also stressed that the armed forces of Ukraine are now “better equipped, better trained, better managed” than in 2014. The Secretary General noted that NATO member countries “provide support to the defense forces of Ukraine so that they can defend themselves, this is the right of every nation.”

On February 7, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said that the authorities of the United Kingdom intend to increase the number of military contingents in Poland by 350 people. On the same day, another group of soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Armed Forces arrived in Poland. The number of troops was not reported.

At the same time, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Great Britain and the United States invented the “Russian threat” for a “heroic” fight against it. Thus, the West is trying to divert attention from its own political crises and “drain billions into armaments,” the diplomat said.

On February 2, military expert Vladislav Shurygin, in an interview with Izvestia, called the strengthening of NATO in Eastern Europe serious after the military was transferred to Romania, Poland and Germany. As the specialist clarified, if the decision to transfer troops is finally made, this will be done as soon as possible, because the equipment is already in Europe.

The United States and a number of European countries have recently expressed concern over the alleged increase in Russia’s “aggressive actions” against Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly denied such accusations, saying that it does not threaten anyone, and such statements are used as an excuse to place as much NATO military equipment as possible near the borders of the Russian Federation.
