Again more than 35,000 new infections and 22 deaths

At the same time, 22 other fatalities were registered. Eight more Covid 19 patients have had to be admitted to the hospitals since Wednesday. A total of 2,064 infected people have to be treated in the hospital.

The more than 35,000 new infections are also reflected in the still high seven-day average. This was now 32,265 new cases per day. In the past week alone, 225,856 people have contracted SARS-CoV-2. The seven-day incidence fell slightly to 2,528.4 on Thursday, down from 2,560.7 on Wednesday. Across Austria, 342,114 people were actively infected.

There were 2,064 infected people in the hospital on Thursday, 191 of whom were being cared for in intensive care units. That was six more seriously ill people than on Wednesday. There was a clear increase in the total number of hospitalized patients in a week-to-week comparison. Within the past seven days, they have increased by 18 percent, and a total of 320 Covid-19 patients had to be admitted to the hospital.

Many fatalities

The largest increase was in Styria with 47 percent. On Thursday, 305 infected people needed treatment in the hospital, 98 more than a week ago. Tyrol has recorded an increase of 38 percent in the past seven days, with 54 other infected people there were 198 Covid 19 patients in the hospitals on Thursday. There were slight declines in hospitalizations in a weekly comparison in Carinthia with minus three patients and in Burgenland with minus two infected people.

The death toll from the pandemic remains high. In the past week alone, 148 deaths have been registered. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 14,315 lives in Austria since it broke out almost two years ago. 160.3 people per 100,000 inhabitants have already died from or with Covid-19. The highest death rates in relation to the population are recorded in Styria with 205.1 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants and Carinthia with 200.1 deaths per 100,000 people. The lowest death rate is in Tyrol with 111.4 victims per 100,000 inhabitants.

Lowest positive rate in Vienna

Since the beginning of the pandemic there have already been 2,184,873 confirmed cases in Austria. 1,828,444 people are considered to have recovered. The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence on Thursday was Carinthia with 3,085.6 ahead of Vorarlberg with 3,023. It was followed by Upper Austria with 2,872.4, Styria with 2,630.2 and Tyrol with 2,622. Salzburg (2,517), Vienna (2,229.4), Lower Austria (2,227.7) and Burgenland (2,075.9) followed.

In total, more than a million PCR and antigen rapid tests have been registered in the past 24 hours. Of these, 617,047 were meaningful PCR tests, of which 5.7 percent were positive. The highest positive rate of 14.63 percent was in the federal state with the lowest number of PCR tests per 100,000 inhabitants in Upper Austria (3,112 tests). The lowest positive rate of 1.97 percent was recorded in Vienna, the federal state with the highest test rate of 16,277 PCR analyzes per 100,000 inhabitants. Throughout Austria, an average of 591,148 PCR tests were examined every day in the past week, the positive rate was 5.5 percent.

On Wednesday, 16,948 vaccinations were carried out across Austria. According to the data from the e-vaccination card, a total of 6,775,938 people have already received at least one vaccination. Exactly 6,208,022 people and thus 69.5 percent of Austrians have a valid vaccination.
