Scotland Yard boss resigns amid racism scandal

Khan said he was “unsatisfied with the response from the commissioner” after he told him of the changes needed to “eradicate racism, sexism, homophobia, harassment, discrimination and misogyny” in the body.

“Last week I made clear to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner the change I believe is urgently required to rebuild Londoners’ confidence in the institution,” expounded the mayor, who said he was dissatisfied with Dick’s response to this series of scandals.

Dick, for his part, said that he will now work “in close collaboration with the Minister of the Interior, Priti Patel, in the appointment of a new commissioner to quickly restore confidence in the capital’s Police.”

He indicated that he felt “enormous sadness”, but that it was “clear that the mayor no longer has enough confidence” in his “leadership to continue”, reported the AFP and Europa Press news agencies.

The announcement comes as police are investigating the “Partygate scandal”, involving several Christmas gatherings in 2020 at Downing Street government headquarters during the harshest coronavirus lockdown, an event that involved and greatly complicated Prime Minister Boris Johnson. .

Johnson would have participated in at least three meetings according to the local press, and for this reason he faces several calls for resignation from the opposition and even from a good part of his conservative party.
